Temporary delivery of medication reviews remotely, in specific circumstances, from 21 April 2020.
In response to the current COVID-19 virus pandemic situation, Service Providers will temporarily be able to deliver medication reviews remotely, in specific circumstances, from 21 April 2020.
Where a patient has been identified as eligible according to the relevant Program Rules, a service provider may undertake a MedsCheck, Diabetes MedsCheck, Home Medicines Review or Residential Medication Management Review via video or teleconference to assist with reducing the risk to that patient and the pharmacist.
The Department of Health has partnered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia to develop resources for delivering comprehensive medication reviews without a face to face interview. These resources, which supplement the Guidelines for delivering these services, together with the updated Program Rules and consent forms, will be available on the PPA website from 21 April 2020.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) each expressed concerns about hydroxychloroquine being prescribed and supplied for off-label use. The organisation has written an open letter to prescribers requesting they avoid prescribing hydroxychloroquine for off-label ‘just in case’ treatment of COVID-19, stating that if it is found to be effective against COVID-19, it will need to be available for those who need it.
